Journey to 13.1

This midwestern girl is running her first half-marathon in San Diego on June 2nd, 2013.

I couldn't be more terrified, anxious, nervous, and excited!

My mom has been running marathons for years and not just halves, she does the crazy 26.2 mile full marathons. I have always wanted to run a marathon with my mom but have never been a runner.  My mom, sisters and I already had the trip to San Diego scheduled and my mom was running  the San Diego Rock and Roll Run while we were there so I decided now was as good as time as any to start and go for it!  Not only am I doing the half but my two sisters decided to as well!  This will for sure be an awesome memory that we can all have together!

I officially start my training schedule March 10th but have been running since the last week of January. Mind you, I don't run, and never really have so I am starting from nothing.  I have been working out consistenly about 5 days a week since last July so I have a lot of cardio under my belt but I know running is a whole new ballgame!   The schedule has you starting at 3-5 miles a day in the first week so I've been gradually preparing myself for that.  I've had some great runs so far and runs that have made me feel like 13.1 miles will be impossible.  However, I'm ready for the challenge and will keep on trying!

I'm getting pretty comfortable with the 3 and 4 miles runs so by my first week of "official" training, I should be ready to start pushing myself for more.

If any of you are runners, I will take any advice you have, I know I am going to need it.  I feel I've came farther already than I thought I could but know I still have a long way to go before I'm ready for race day!

3-2-13 Did my first 5 mile run.  It was slow but I pushed from 3.5 on.
Ran 3-5 mile days for a few weeks.
3-20-13  6 Miles, woop woop in the freezing temps and WIND.
Kept running 5 and 6
4-3-13 7 Miles
